Police have arrested 18 people from both communities after clashes broke out between two groups in Karnataka’s Bagalkot on Wednesday.
Vehicles were set ablaze and members of the two communities hurled stones at each other during the incident that took place in Kerur town.
CLASHES BROKE OUT AFTER EVE TEASING WOMEN
The incident followed a confrontation between Yasin, a local, and two brothers, Arun and Lakshman. The brothers questioned Yasin about eve-teasing women and an altercation broke out after the duo pushed him around.
Yasin later attacked Arun and Lakshman along with 10 to 15 of his friends. Then Arun and Lakshman’s friends attacked Yasin and his friends and the altercation led to a clash in the market area.
Arun and Lakshman were stabbed during the fight. The two have been admitted to a hospital and are now out of danger.
Following the clashes on Wednesday, Section 144 has been imposed in Kerur town with schools and colleges shut down.
